Stories from the East

The NBE is pulling out all the stops to offer you a unique opportunity, experiencing a new NBE-program with old friends: Stories from the East. The two dear Iranian friends Ali Ghamsari (tār) and Haleh Seyfizadeh (vocals), known from the previous program Bach & Sufi, combined with moving storyteller Sahand Sahebdivani who brings to life the stories his parents left behind as political refugees in Iran. Together, in this unique NBE-performance - about war, flight and hope for a new world - they answer the question: 'When you flee your homeland, can you pack up your stories and take them with you?' The introduction is free, but some venues require reservations (see websites theaters for more info). Purcell goes celtic

At first sight, the 17th-century British genius Henry Purcell, composer of fragile and tender Baroque music, does not seem to be able to fuse with rough Irish Celtic music. However, the NBE shows that it is possible indeed, together with three Irish heroes and music that touches the soul deeply: Robbie Walsh on bodhrán (Irish drum), vocalist Piaras Ó Lorcáin and Cian Smith on Uilleann pipes (Irish bagpipes). https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=je8doT1d-Ig

New Year’s Concert 2024

The Nederlands Wind Ensemble's New Year's concerts are as inseparable from New Year's Day as ski jumping and the Viennese waltz. A surprising musical celebration, with unexpected guests and wonderful stories. At this New Year's concert the winners of the NBE composition competition - for age 18 and younger - get the chance to perform their own composition at the Concertgebouw stage together with the musicians of the NBE. Genesis (De Schepping) with Bart Moeyaert

BART MOEYAERT AUTHOR, NARRATOR Genesis (De Schepping) is the first installment of the succesful musical trilogy created by the Netherlands Wind Ensemble based on three of Haydn’s oratorio's. The basis for this show was Haydn’s oratorio The Creation, in a never-before-heard arrangement for nine wind instruments by Josef Triebensee, a contemporary of Haydn’s. The Netherlands Wind Ensemble asked the Flemish author Bart Moeyaert to write and narrate his own version of the story in this production of Genesis.

Lunch concerts

Conversations, exchanging ideas, sharing moments and memories, all of this creates a sense of belonging and a feeling of home. The jongNBE with 10 musicians from 7 different countries brings those conversations on stage. In their program every piece comes from a different corner of the world. The unique combination of different songs and pieces shows how enriching it can be to come together, have a conversation and let the different influences become something new. The lunch concert in the Concertgebouw is already sold out, tickets for the lunch concert in TivoliVredenburg can be reserved for free from 10:00 on February 23.

American Roots

The NBE delves deep into the heart of American music. Alongside Native American singer Charly Lowry, a musical talent and descendant of the Tuscarora tribe, the NBE explores the beauty of Native American culture. Also, seeking our roots in nature was Philip Glass, whose iconic film score "Koyaanisqatsi," adapted for the ensemble, serves as a common thread throughout the program. Like a meandering river, the two musical landscapes merge, accompanied by live projections from the young visual artist Vincent Rang. Originally, American Roots was scheduled with guest artist Pura Fé. Due to personal circumstances, she had to cancel, and we are pleased that Charly Lowry, also deeply connected to her Native American roots, can step in as a replacement.

Schiermonnikoog Festival

For years, the jongNBE has been a regular part of the programme of the Schiermonnikoog Festival, an annual voyage of discovery on Schiermonnikoog featuring young classical talent. This year, the jongNBE performs a show about love. In the eight languages the jongNBE speaks, the ensemble tells a story about love. The best answer people have to violence, aggression and war. From the 16th century in Italy to the 20th in Brazil, from Romanticism in France and Spain to the folk music of the Basque country and klezmer, from the past to the present (with a surprise composition by a young composer(s)); love plays a leading role everywhere. And it ranges from bewitched, foolish, broken, unrequited to tender, embracing love and .... wild infatuation.
