Composers’ competition – Composers’ weekend

Every year, the composers' competition Op weg naar het Nieuwjaarsconcert proves its power. Each year, the NBE receives masterpieces from dozens of talented young composers. THIRD ROUND | COMPOSERS' WEEKEND WITH NBE In this weekend, all selected composers and NBE musicians meet. It is a weekend full of rehearsals, games and workshops. Each day ends with a concert in which the composers together with the NBE perform their own composition for an audience. After each concert, 5 composers are chosen who are guaranteed a place in the Finale. The Finale will take place on Sunday, December 22 in TivoliVredenburg in Utrecht. Finals Composers Competition ‘On the Road to the New Year’s Concert 2025’

During this final, young composers compete against each other for a spot in the New Year's Concert. They represent the cream of the crop of young composers in the Netherlands. In this final, three winners will be chosen, all of whom will perform their own piece together with the NBE during the annual New Year's Concert at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam on January 1st. For over twenty years, the NBE has encouraged thousands of children and young people to compose their own music and make music together! The young composers competition On the Road to the New Year's Concert has been a household name for over twenty years, with a different theme each year and under the motto 'anything goes, as long as you made it up yourself'. The young composers competition was the starting point and became the basis of an extensive talent development program for young (top) talent.

Nieuwjaarsconcert 2025 (New Year’s Concert 2025)

Traditionally, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble heralds the new year with a grand, musical celebration from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. This year, we celebrate the ensemble’s versatility by showcasing it in all its facets, featuring NBE, jongNBE, and jongNBEregionaal together on stage. This year marks the debut of bass trombonist Brandt Attema as artistic director. To celebrate the versatility of the NBE, he has chosen to showcase the ensemble in all its facets: NBE performing alongside the young musicians of jongNBE and jongNBEregionaal. We are thrilled to welcome special guests: Dutch-Kurdish singer-songwriter Naaz, Mongolian throat singer and morin khuur player Enkhjargal Dandarvaanchig (Epi), and Dutch-Surinamese jazz diva Denise Jannah. Together we play the most beautiful musical tales from all corners of the globe. And of course, this year's young winners of the Young Composers Competition will play their own compositions. This year the winners are Mateo Suknović (10) & Noud Egelmeers (11), Kobus Jansen (15) en Linde Geboers (18). All together it will be a sensory-stimulating performance offering togetherness, hope, solace, and inspiration. Het Paradijs (The Paradise)

Using the three oratorios by Franz Joseph Haydn (Die Schöpfung, Die Jahreszeiten and Die Sieben letzten Worte) as a starting point, the Nederlands Blazers Ensemble, together with Flemish writer Bart Moeyaert, created a successful music theater trilogy consisting of De Schepping (The Creation), Het Paradijs (The Paradise) and De Hemel (The Heaven). Het Paradijs is the second part of the cycle, based on Haydn's oratorio Die Jahreszeiten (The Seasons) in a special arrangement for wind ensemble by Hans van der Heide. Bart Moeyaert wrote a new text to accompany the old music and is the narrator during the concerts. The story of Het Paradijs begins where The Schepping ended. The Garden of Eden is one of abundance. Bart Moeyaert's language sizzles. With a few strokes of the pen, he describes the exuberant nature and stimulates all the senses. He subtly conveys that amidst all the harmony, only two dissonances are present: the man who tells the story and the woman who is with him. Het Ultieme Nieuwjaarsconcert (The Ultimate New Year’s Concert)

  For over 50 years, the NBE has welcomed the new year with the festive New Year's concerts from the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Over the years, this event has grown, both in the concert hall and on TV, into true happenings full of connection and innovative music from all over the world. In Hogere Sferen – Bach, Sufi & Pärt (In Higher Realms)

As Sufism encourages unity and harmony, and connects Eastern and Western ideologies, in the program In Hogere Sferen - Bach, Sufi & Pärt (In Higher Realms) traditional Persian music, Johann Sebastian Bach, and Arvo Pärt find and embrace each other. Together with Iranian singer Haleh Seyfizadeh and Iranian tär player Ali Ghamsari, the Dutch Wind Ensemble presents an intriguing exploration of the connection between Bach, Sufism, and the contemporary sounds of Arvo Pärt. In doing so, Pärt's minimalist approach adds a contemporary nuance to the symbiosis of traditional Persian music and the masterpieces of Johann Sebastian Bach. jongNBE – Schiermonnikoog Festival

The jongNBE has been a part of the Schiermonnikoog Festival program, an annual journey of discovery on Schiermonnikoog featuring young classical talent for years. This year, their performance in De Stag will focus on dancing, and the day after you can join them on a sound excursion. When you give jongNBE carte blanche, anything is possible. From old to new; from distant sounds to music close to home. So, just put on those dancing shoes and get your tickets. Disappointment is out of the question. Especially because, before the intermission, you will already get to enjoy the masterclass students as well as Veriko Tchumburidze and colleagues in Kodály’s Serenade for two violins and viola. The composer loved to let his music grow from a "sourdough" of Hungarian sounds, and the same is true here: energetic dances and enchanting lyricism. Natuurmonumenten and the Schiermonnikoog Festival present the sound excursion with jongNBE. Every spring and autumn, musicians perform in the heart of nature. The rangers create a new route for each edition and share fun facts about the nature you encounter along the way. During the walk, you will come across the jongNBE.
