The Netherlands Wind Ensemble (NWE) has prepared a program featuring one of the most remarkable personalities in Czech music: singer, viola player and violinist Iva Bittová. Bittová refuses to be pigeonholed; performing a skilful balancing act between folk, pop and avant-garde, she has created an original and entirely individual musical style, which she herself describes as “my own personal folk music”.
Dance of the Vampires is a programme of Czech music. For three great Czech composers, Dvořák, Smetana and Janáček, folk music was a natural source of inspiration. The music of Leoš Janáček is most akin to Bittová’s.
